Newstead is a delightful township located on the Loddon river, approximately 90 minutes from Melbourne and 15 minutes from Castlemaine.
Small enough to have a tonne of country charm, Newstead is large enough to boast good country shops including grocer, butcher, general store, baker, antiques and 2 cafes. The township also claims a children play ground, swimming pool, free wireless network, many lovely picnic spots and 2 pubs with character.
And Newstead is the perfect home for a music festival.
2007 saw the first year of Newstead Live! Music Festival and the right from the outset the townships space and ambiance proved a perfect setting.
The venues are a close walk from each other down shaded streets, just far enough apart for sound bleed not to be a problem. And the centre of the township is the centre of the festival. A choice of camping sites completes the picture, then just add the music ... and you.
Newstead Live! is run by the incorporated, not for profit, body Newstead Live Inc, it has a hard working committee of locals and music enthusiasts. Like most small (and huge) festivals it is supported by an enthusiastic group of volunteers doing work both behind and in front of the scenes and much is owed to all of them. It couldn't happen without them.
